Best of luck, kind citizens of Granite Falls. Don't be late to the vote, you can make a difference. Either that or don't tie one on the night before.
Here's the entire article:
GRANITE FALLS - Residents of Granite Falls will vote today on whether to permit the sale of alcohol within city limits. It is somewhat curious that the paper in Hickory is reporting the goings-on of Granite Falls. Taking a quick look at 'Yahoo' maps, to get to Hickory from Granite Falls, you take one right turn, another right turn, a left, another right and Bingo!! you're in the land of Beer and Pork Rinds. The whole trip covers about 8 miles and I suspect that most folks in Granite Falls have already figured this out. In fact, I would be willing to bet that most of them have made this run after running out of beer once or twice.
The vote came about after developers interested in property along the U.S. 321 North corridor approached town council in August.
In September, town council unanimously approved a motion to hold an election for the sale of alcohol.
Registered voters living in the Granite Falls city limits will be able to vote for or against three issues:
To permit the on-premises and off-premises sale of malt beverages.
To permit the on-premises and off-premises sale of unfortified wine.
To permit the sale of mixed beverages in hotels, restaurants, private clubs, community theaters and convention centers.
The election will take place at the Shuford Recreation Center on Pinewood Road, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
For more information about the vote, call Linda Story at 396-3131.
Best of luck, kind citizens of Granite Falls. Don't be late to the vote, you can make a difference. Either that or don't tie one on the night before.
